Native American tribes from Michigan, Wisconsin and Ontario have come together to call for an end to the Line 5 pipeline.
The
Enbridge Line 5 crude oil pipeline, first constructed in 1953,
stretches from Wisconsin through 645 miles of Michigan and ends in
Sarnia, Ontario. Part of the pipeline travels underwater through the
Straits of Mackinac.
In recent years, the pipeline’s continued
operation has become a source of controversy. Many tribal nations and
communities claim that the pipeline goes through their traditional
territories. The Straits area in particular is considered a place of
significant cultural and historical importance to many native groups,
including the Anishinaabe. According to tribal leaders, the pipeline
poses a major and direct threat to the ecosystems along its path.
“The Straits of Mackinac are […] sacred from both a cultural and
historical perspective in the formation of the Anishinaabe people,” said
Austin Lowes, chairperson of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa
Indians, in a statement. “Protecting the Straits is also a matter of the
utmost environmental and economic importance — both to our people and
the state of Michigan.”
Tribal leaders and other environmental
groups have publicly opposed the pipeline for many years and have called
for the pipeline to be shut down.
Supporters of the pipeline
point out that it transports 540,000 barrels of light crude oil and
natural gas liquids through Line 5 on a daily basis. […]
In
an effort to address safety concerns, Enbridge has proposed an
underwater tunnel to house the portion of Line 5 that runs under the
Straits of Mackinac. […] Critics of the tunnel project say no oil should be
transported through the Straits at all, as a spill could have a
devastating impact on more than 700 miles of Great Lakes shoreline. […]
Previous attempts to shut down the pipeline have been stopped through
various means, mostly the 1977 Transit Pipeline Treaty between Canada
and the United States.
The latest attempt saw 51 tribal
organizations from Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario submit a report to
the United Nations Human Rights Council. This report, dated April 4,
claims that the Government of Canada is violating the human rights of
Indigenous peoples through its continuous support for Line 5.
The
report was submitted to be considered during Canada’s upcoming Universal
Periodic Review, conducted by the United Nations. As a United Nations
member state, Canada is required to be evaluated for its human rights
record on a regular basis.
Canada’s Universal Periodic Review will take place this year on Nov. 6-17.

I’m gonna throw up bc sasuke intentionally didn’t get close to people so he never risked having a best friend so he didn’t have to kill them and that’s why he pushes EVERYONE AWAY and if it wasn’t for that he would’ve played with them but naruto. Fucking naruto had to be the one to be kind to him, to touch his heart, to be his friend. Sasuke slowly watched the crash happen before him and was powerless to stop it because maybe he didn’t want to. Maybe he could be Naruto’s friend and it would be fine. He was willing to risk it. But then itachi came and reminded him of the cruel reality and sasuke became angry. Angry at itachi for ruining everything, angry at himself for being weak and letting someone in, angry at naruto for holding his heart gently in his hand and not seeing the barbs. So he reacted, lashed out. Pushed everyone away, pushed naruto away because if he doesn’t have a best friend he’ll never have to kill them. But fucking naruto just won’t give up and it pisses sasuke off. Doesn’t he understand? I need abandonment issues Naruto. I need a Naruto who has absolute faith that Sasuke is good now and he’s not gonna go awol and will actually allow himself to be part of a community that strives to improve their society through love and kindness instead of hate and control. That he’s gone back to allowing himself to have faith that people can redeem themselves
But at the same time I want a Naruto who’s still subconsciously anxious over the idea that Sasuke will leave him. Because there is a ‘selfish’ (or so he thinks) part of him that wants Sasuke for himself. To have Sasuke love him the way he himself has always loved Sasuke and he’s terrified of the thought because what if he’s not good enough? What if he’s not worth staying for? What if he’s just not good enough to be loved that way?
So you have a Naruto that’s subconsciously in a constant state of anxiety but also not really understanding why he feels that way because Sasuke is back and he’s doing better so that should be enough right?
And I want it to be that the feeling is so strong that even after they do start a relationship, it’s still a thought that plagues his mind like an unpredictable tide that threatens to sweep him away the second he loses his footing at the opportune moment. And I need a Sasuke who is very aware of this and does everything he can to sooth him.
They still have missions that keep them apart because they still have a goal to make a better world and there are some missions that require them to handle it first hand. But Sasuke sends Naruto a letter everyday even if it’s just a message informing Naruto of where he is. When he comes home he stays close even when they’re out because
